Building maintenance: Water penetration
We undertake large to small maintenance jobs. Our speciality is resolving water penetration issues in your homes by stitching and sealing cracks, fixing lintel and re-pointing issues within the structure of the walls and much more.
Damp and poorly maintained roofs/walls is common especially with seaside towns. The salts, wind and driving rain can all add to serious damage to your home. Catching it early can save lot of money and time. So don’t hesitate to call us, you’ll be please you did !
Crack repairs:
Cracks can form in most part of your building. They can start with a hair line crack and if not repaired early can expand to large cracks which can lead to render blowing or failing completely. To ensure this doesn’t happen our repairs do not simply consist of opening a crack and squeezing in sealant. Such repairs can and do often fail as the sealant isn’t able to adhere too well to wet surfaces. Even worse a hard cement base mixture could be inserted in the crack allowing for no flexibility in the joint. Often this will lead to crack appearing in other sections of the wall. At 1st solutions, we provide a stitching repair that used high flex materials with the addition of a synthetic mesh that sits just under the render main level. This not only ensures a smooth level finish but also allows flexibility in the joint during the natural expansion of the render or brickwork , ensuring a long lasting repair.
Firewalls:
Firewalls are a major cause of damp inside a property. Due to its flat and expose surface, it is prone to cracks and excessive water penetration. This often leads to the brickwork below to fail causing further problems to the render allowing large cracks to form and water to enter your home.
At 1st building solutions we can offer you a wide range of repair solutions depending of the condition of your firewall.
Roof eves:
Roofing membrane failing along the eve of the roof is the most common roofing issue we come across. If the roofing membrane under the tiles doesn’t direct the rain water into the gutters through its over hangs, then pooling along the eve can occur. This pool of water can eventually stretch and drop the membrane causing it to fall behind the fascia. If this occurs water is no longer directed into the gutter but instead is directed back inside the walls of your home. The can cause serious water damage to your walls and interiors of your property. The solution if caught early is to install eve trays. This are long stiff upvc trays that lifts and reinforces the eve area, preventing any futures membrane drop from ever happening.
Guttering:
Guttering needs to be clear of any debris and has sufficient drop to encourage all of the water and any potential moss to be driven away down your downpipes. Poorly fitted gutters can easily overflow and direct water back into your property. It is very common for gutters to move especially if your home is open to the elements. This movement can and will cause the gutters to fail, so choosing the right type of solution to stop this from happening is very important.
